Referee Update for 2010 Season

With the 2009 season behind us, we are currently planning for the upcoming 2010

season. We had a huge influx of new referees in 2009 to facilitate our new referee

program. With Duncan Jessiman coming on board as the assistant RIC we successfully

implemented a shadow program for developing referees. This program was a success

as we began training 32 new referees bringing our total staff to 67. In addition,

the Provincials, WCCC and National tournaments utilized some of our referees.

Unfortunately, we had to turn away about 20 interested persons last year. The

turned away people will have the first opportunity to gain a position in our

referee program this year. Keeping in mind we utilize about 50 to 65 referees per

week, we do not want to have too many referees on standby. The on-job training and

clinics are currently the only opportunities for developing referees.

We look forward to the upcoming season. We will keep returning referees apprised

of clinic dates and times on the website via referee corner as usual.
