Risk Management

Coaches;

There are many questions surrounding what you all need on the bench this season. So here is the break down. These requirements are mandated through our govening body WestCoast Minor Ball Hockey Association of B.C. and are for the safety of all association membership and the betterment of the sport of ball hockey.

Rosters  Anyone you intend to utilize as an assistant coach, manager, even the occasional helper must be declared on your roster to qualify for insurance coverage. For insurance purposes persons not on this roster are not permitted to enter the bench area or the floor space druing any game or practice. For the sake of definition, the playing surface is the floor, the benches, penalty boxes, and score booth. Although parents do operate the score clock, as long as they are functioning as a game officials they are covered by the association's provisional rider as a game officials. Score keepers and time keepers do not have to be entered on the roster as team officials as this is most often a rotational duty.

Police Checks  Any person 'of influence' to a minor within any minor sports organization must submit to a police check. This service is provided free of charge for minor sports. If you have been subjected to a police check for any other minor sports organization in the past year, simply contact that organizations risk management representative, and they will provide varification to us. Have them send varification to gary-dmbha@hotmail.com Only electronic or writen varification will be accepted. You may drop your completed police checks at Sungod Arena. Underneath Delta Minor Ball Hockey's trophy case is a mail slot. This drop box is secured, and is only accesible to DMBHA executive members. Police checks are done free of charge if you have a letter signed by either the President or Risk Manager endorsing you as a minor sport vollunteer. If you do not have this letter, contact your designated assistant Head Coach. They will in turn make sure you recieve this letter

Speak Out   As this is the first season of mandatory implementation, each team has to have a minimum of 1 person with Speak Out certification present on the bench and in the dressing room. This person must be entered on your roster, and as such must be insured. As the program progresses from season to season it will eventually extend to the entire managment structure from team to division to association.

NCCP level 1  There will be courses offered by the governing bodies of DMBHA offering CBHA endorsed NCCP1 coaches course. The person deemed Coach must posess this certification, or have registered to attend this course and complete the class time prior to May 15 2009. You do not need to attend this course if you have NCCP Hybrid or greater certification through Minor Hockey.  If you cannot find your certification, you may log onto Hockey Canada's web ste. There you will enter your Hockey Canada #. This will then produce your profile, which will list all certifications and qualifications you have. If you do not have your Hockey Canada #, contact your minor hockey association where you attained your certification. They will be able to give you your Hockey Canada #. You may also be able to get this information from Hockey BC

Fisrt Aid  If you do not have a valid first aid qualification of minimum St. John's emergency First Aid, you must attend the first aid course. A minimum of 1 person per team must qualify. Regards; Gary Bryant 2nd V.P. Risk Manager DMBHA
