Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do I register my son/daughter to play ball hockey?
A. You can register either Online or In Person (Open Registration – Sungod Arena). Please note space is
limited therefore we highly recommend ONLINE REGISTRATION to ensure your son/daughter acquires
a spot.

Q. How will I know if you received my registration online?
A. You will receive a confirmation once you register to which is forwarded to our website database.

Q. My son/daughter wants to play with his/her friend is that ok?
A. There are NO AFFILICATIONS permitted except for the following circumstances: Siblings, Same
household residency and Executive approval (special circumstances). Carpooling, babysitting and single
parent is NOT considered a general “special circumstances.”

Q. When do we find out what team my son/daughter is on?
A. Draft nights are conducted late March), and players are contacted within 72 hours from their
designated coach.

Q. How long does the season last?
A. The season begins the first week of April and continues to the end of June. Extended season for elite
tournament play for the Western Challenge Cup is generally the second week of July, Nationals are the
last week of July to the beginning of August and the Worlds are every two years played in May or June.

Q. How many games and practices will my son/daughter have?
A. Tyke – Peewee is an 18 game season. Minor – Junior is a 16 game season. The regular season is
finished by the first week of June and playoffs commence immediately. Playoffs are concluded by the
third week of June with winning teams advancing to the Provincials played the last week of June. Most
teams play two (2) games per week. Practices are a coach’s discretion for the number held, however a
general rule to go by is most teams have a minimum of one practice every seven - ten days.

Q. What equipment is required?
A. Mandatory equipment is: a CSA approved helmet (sticker must be visible) and wire cage (Plexiglas or
half cage is not permitted), hockey gloves (Lacrosse gloves are not permitted), hockey stick (no plastic
blade) with a plug or taped and running shoes. Optional but recommended are shin pads, elbow pads
and a cup. Shin pads are mandatory (see rule change front page)

Q. An issue has arisen with my son/daughters coach, how do we handle it?
A. There is a set protocol for all members to follow in dealing with issues. The first step is to discuss the
matter with the coach. Should you feel the resolution to be unsatisfactory, you should send an email to
the Head Coach of your son/daughters division cc: Head Coach. Should you again feel that the resolution
to be unsatisfactory, you should direct a letter to the President with all previous correspondence and
communication attached. Should you feel the resolution is again unsatisfactory, you can appeal the
matters decision to West Coast Minor Ball Hockey Association of B.C. our governing body asking for
mediation on your behalf.

Q. I spoke to an executive member about an issue but nothing was done, why?
A. All matters requiring executive intervention MUST BE in writing. This set procedure protects all
parties’ privacy and enables executive members to act upon a matter as verbal communication is
regarded as “hearsay”.

Q. My son/daughter was injured while playing ball hockey, now what do we do?
A. Move your mouse to TEAMS, once a new page appears you will see an orange bar with INSURANCE
FORMS. Should you require further information or direction, you should contact a member of WCMBHA
of B.C. as they are responsible and mandate DMBHA’s insurance policy.

Q. My son/daughter is nervous can I go on the floor during practices?
A. No. The only insured members to go on the floor during games/practices are the players and coaching
staff. Coaching staff is identified and insured upon team roster forms being submitted to DMBHA at the
beginning of the season. However, we do recommend you speaking to your child’s coach with this
concern so every effort can be made to aid player circumstances.

Q. What equipment must be worn at practices and games?
A. All mandatory equipment must be worn at all times by players if they are on the cement surface
regardless of game or practice. This includes the curling rink and lacrosse box. Should a player not have
on the mandatory equipment, our insurance coverage is considered void if an injury occurs.
