Dear Parents and Players, March 2010
Welcome to another exciting season of ball hockey. The 2010 membership consists of 7 peanut, 8 pup, 13 peewee, 10 minor, 10 major and 9 junior teams. This enrollment is a testament to the sport itself but more importantly the continued growing involvement and support of our families in North Delta. Over the past twelve months, our executive board has been busy planning, securing and revisiting the structure of our association. To this end, you will note some fun events planned as well as some changes to the season formation.
The PeeWee division will now be playing two twenty minute periods in an hour and fifteen-minute timeslot. To have continuity within our divisions, the Minor, Major, and Junior divisions will revert to the two twenty minute periods in an hour and half timeslot.
The Tyke division has undergone a restructuring and division of ages. This division will be broken down into two groups, Tyke 1 and Tyke 2 (according to age), with the goal of successfully mastering criterion put forth by our Head Coach Brevil Robinson.
Our Referee in Chief Selina Chesworth is spearheading our continued focus and reinforcement of the referee program. We are pleased to say, other associations are using the DMBHA program as a template for their own association.
To aid our coaches in practice planning, game strategy and bench management we are offering coaching clinics. We have acquired the services of Mr. Bob Atchison to run these clinics. Bob is certified with Hockey Canada as a coach instructor. Additionally, we will be offering skill clinics to our players.
Our floor time will begin on Saturday March 27 with teams holding practices right thru until Sunday April 4. The regular season schedule will begin on Tuesday April 6.
We also have two fun events planned in the month of April. Please join us on Saturday April 10 at North Delta Recreation Center for a Pancake Breakfast. This event will coincide with picture day at the same location. Then on the evening of Saturday April 24, pull out your Hawaiian shirt and grass skirt and make plans to join us for our Hawaiian themed dance!
The DMBHA executive welcomes feedback from parents. If you have any concerns, suggestions, or general comments, please direct them to the appropriate Division Manager. These managers are your first point of contact for any issues you may have. You can notify them by email with the assurance of confidentiality and anonymity, to which the executive board can then assess the concern and take action if necessary. Our goal is to problem solve so all participants enjoy the experience of playing ball hockey in the community of Delta.
Please remember ball hockey is a fun recreational sport for players aged five to nineteen. Coaches selflessly volunteer their time, parents volunteer countless hours and our executive works twelve months a year to bring a smile to your child’s face at the end of a game. When you are in the stands cheer for a good goal, first-rate play or great save no matter which team it is.
On behalf of the DMBHA executive, we wish you a happy and safe season. Play fair, play safe, and have fun!
See you on the floor as the orange ball drops.
Regards in sport,
Scott Carle
President, DMBHA
